ITT Hoffman Expands Bear Trap® Line With Three NewSeries for Commercial/Industrial Applications

Morton Grove, IL -- May 10, 1996 -- ITT Hoffman has expanded its popularline of Bear Trap® in-line float and thermostatic steam traps with threenew model series -- the Series I, 8C and 9C -- for a variety of commercialand industrial applications.

The new Bear Trap Series I in-line float and thermostatic steam traps featurein-line piping to eliminate unnecessary lifts in return lines, maximizeelevation of condensate return lines and produce optimal gravity discharge. Ideal for applications such as air make-up coils, cooking kettles and unitheaters, the Series I traps feature inlet/outlet tappings on the same horizontalplane to simplify piping.

The Series I NPT size range of 3/4, 1 and 1-1/4 inches (20, 25 and 32 mm)is the broadest range offered by any manufacturer. The traps have a capacity-handlingrange of 70 to 2340 lb./hr -- matching or exceeding the capacity of anysimilar traps now available. Maximum operating temperature for the SeriesI traps is 406 F (208 C).

For superior performance and service life, the Series I traps feature highpH-resistant stainless steel internal components, including valve pin/seat,float, lever assembly and thermostatic air vent. A balanced pressure thermostatadjusts to all operating pressures, from 1/4 psig to 175 psig (0.017 bar)to (12.1 bar). Its location above the trap internal operating water lineassures complete air removal. A ball bearing plug below the trap waterline closes tightly to reduce steam loss.

The Series 8C and 9C Bear Trap models have stainless steel internal componentsto resist moderate water hammer and chemical attack from high pH. Theyfeature DuraStat thermostatic modules for fast, easy service with no springsor gaskets required.

The new Bear Trap Series 8C and 9C balanced pressure thermostatic steamtraps are available in straight and angle models for institutional, commercialand other heating system applications that require high capacity operation. The units provide subcooling to improve system efficiency and eliminateflash steam losses on low pressure systems.

The Series 8C and 9C steam traps handle maximum operating pressures up to125 psig (8.6 bar). The series 8C angle units are available in 1/2 and3/4" (15 - 20 mm) NPT sizes. The Series 8C straightaway unit is availablein a 3/4" (20 mm) NPT size. The Series 9C angle unit is availablein a 1" (25 mm) size.

All Bear Trap steam traps are manufactured in Chicago, in an
ISO 9001 certified facility.
