Melo has been appointed Manager of Environmental Health & Safety for Bell & Gossett, a unit of ITT Industries. In his new position, Melo has primary responsibility for implementing strategies to ensure compliance with environment, safety & health regulations, to reduce facility related environmental impacts, to guide pollution prevention efforts, and coach others in the effort to sustain the safest possible work environment. Melo has held various positions in the environmental consulting and services field and
in general industry, focusing on forward-thinking environmental and safety management
system improvements. For the last three years, Melo served as Manager of Environment,
Safety & Training for McDonnell & Miller of Chicago, another ITT Industries unit.
Melo, who attended the University of California, Irvine and Berkeley, is affiliated
with the following professional organizations and think-tank groups: National Association
for Environmental Management, the Environmental Law Institute, the National Safety
Council, the National Fire Protection Association, the Illinois EPA ISO 14001 Multi-State
Pilot Program, and the Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies.
