Consulting Engineer makes 500,000th Bell & Gossett pump selection online

Morton Grove, IL -- June 19, 2002.

Bell & Gossett’s ESP-PLUS® Online pump selection program - the leading Web-based, patent pending, interactive tool for selecting and specifying fluid handling products - recently achieved another milestone when it was accessed for a record-setting 500,000th time. ESP-PLUS Online contains the pump selection portion of Bell & Gossett’s award-winning ESP-PLUS software.

The user who made the 500,000th online selection was Bobby Beeding of Consultant Engineering Service from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Beeding, who regularly visits Bell & Gossett’s Website, accessed ESP-PLUS Online and made the 500,000th selection of a pump for one of the many school projects he manages.

“The online process is very user friendly and gives me a wide selection of the pumps that I use to complete a project,” said Beeding. “The interactive tools on the Website make it easier to select pumps and specify them for my customers needs.”

In recognition of this milestone, Bell & Gossett presented Beeding with a Palm™ M500 handheld organizer, preloaded with Bell & Gossett’s System Syzer® and Balance Valve software.

In less than two years, usage of the ESP-PLUS Online service has significantly increased. The total number of visitors to the Website and the number of product selections made has grown 400 percent. Users have also been accessing pump and fluid handling resources on the Website more frequently. PDF literature and CAD drawing downloads have tripled and email requests for budget pricing and more information have increased two-fold.

“Our Equipment Selection Program is proving to be an irreplaceable engineering tool that helps engineers design fluid handling systems accurately and quickly,” says Mike White, E-Business Manager at ITT Industries’ Fluid Handling Division. “HVACR professionals continue to turn to ESP-PLUS Online for immediate, accurate solutions to their fluid handling needs.”

Launched in November 1997 as part of the company’s Website, ESP-PLUS Online can be accessed in the software section of Bell & Gossett’s Website (www.bellgossett.com). ESP-PLUS also contains a steam specialty selection tool that can be accessed from Hoffman Specialty’s Website (www.hoffmanspecialty.com). The programs help HVACR professionals identify and select fluid handling products and aid with HVAC system design. In the pump selection module, users can choose the correct pumps for applications based on flow rate, pump head, style and speed. ESP-PLUS Online also lets visitors request quotes; view pump specifications and detailed engineering data; link to scaled CAD drawings; check published pump curves; and graph up to nine pumps in parallel.

In addition, HVACR professionals may use ESP-PLUS’s engineering functions. These include: adjusting pump selections for viscous fluids; performing system modeling and variable speed costs analyses; computing wire-to-water efficiencies of multiple pump systems; and generating product submittals.

Another feature of ESP-PLUS Online allows HVACR professionals to conduct analyses of already-installed pump systems. By entering an existing pumps’ series numbers, models, speed and impeller sizes, users can find answers to common system questions

The steam portion of ESP-PLUS Online provides assistance to help in the design of a steam system and shows the importance of a properly designed and maintained system. There are applications to determine steam and condensate pipe sizes, and calculators to determine energy losses due to flash steam and failed traps. There are also applications to help engineers correctly select steam traps and regulators.

Access to ESP-PLUS Online is password protected, visitors must complete an account form at the Website. Once approved, a password is issued directly to the user at no cost.
