Five Tips for Successful Air Separation for Residential Applications

Correct placement of an air separator in a hydronic heating system is more important than most people realize. The separator is not going to work at its optimal efficiency just anywhere in the system. Air wants to come out of solution where the temperature is the highest and the pressure is the lowest. In a residential heating system, that’s typically after the boiler and before the circulator. Correct sizing of the unit is equally important. An air separator that is too small to handle system conditions is only marginally more effective than no air separator at all. Before selecting an air separator for your hydronic heating system, please take a moment to review these tips.

NPSH can also mean Not Pumping So Hot

Anyone who has experienced cavitation damage to a pump impeller, shaft, or seals knows that problems relating to net positive suction head (NPSH) can also mean "Not Pumping So Hot." To prevent damaging cavitation, it is necessary that engineers clearly understand the critical importance of NPSH when selecting pumps for steam condensate systems. There are various options available to an engineer to adjust the pertinent factors of NPSH and ensure proper system operation. This article will give you an in-depth knowledge of NPSH, condensate basics, and the different types of low NPSH pumps for condensate service.

ASME Code Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers

Brazed plate heat exchangers are a great addition to any residential and commercial heating or cooling application. Most of the main components of these applications, such as tanks, require ASME code. An ASME code brazed plate heat exchanger combined with other ASME code pressure vessels offer an advantage to the overall system. ASME provides material traceability, quality assurance, manufacturing standards, and third party inspection.

Did you know?

Bell & Gossett was founded in 1916 by two young engineers, Earl J. Gossett and Wakeman C. Bell, for the purpose of manufacturing and selling case hardening compounds used in the steel industry. In 1919, Bell & Gossett bought and reorganized the Case Hardening Company of Cleveland. Mr. Bell moved to Cleveland to manage the new company, while E.J. Gossett remained with the parent company in Chicago where the focus shifted to HVAC-related products. During the war years, B&G manufactured tank pins, feed water heaters, evaporator-distillers and fuel oil heaters for the Coast Guard and Maritime Division in addition to its standard product offering, and in 1945 Bell & Gossett was awarded the Army-Navy "E" for excellence of performance for its work accomplished during the war. Bell & Gossett became a part of ITT in 1963.
