ESP-PLUS: Tanks Sizing as easy as 1-2-3
|
|
|
The newly enhanced ESP-Plus Tank selection program can size and select B&G expansion tanks using a
direct method that requires minimal input. The program also offers a more helpful method with
graphical step-by-step guidance in sizing the tank. The Summer 2007 issue of Counterpoint
highlights the features of both methods. Read the full article in the current issue of
Counterpoint.

Heating Season is Here
|
|
|
It’s that time again to make sure your customer’s Series 100 and other 3-piece boosters get
properly oiled. Following recommended oiling procedures ensures long lasting and quiet operation.
There are three oil ports- two on the motor and one on the bearing assembly. We recommend using a
B&G #20 weight non-detergent oil. One teaspoon per oil port at the start of each heating season
is suggested.

Cut down on
installation time with a B&G Primary-Secondary
Header
|
|
|
The new Primary Secondary Header is a low-loss header, which simplifies primary-secondary
circuit piping. Replacing the need for closely spaced tees as well as other costly components
such as an air separator, air vent, strainer and dirt separator, the PSH saves valuable
installation time. The PSH is ideally suited for installations with energy efficient condensing
boilers. By hydraulically decoupling the flow in the primary and secondary circuit, each leg of
the circuit can run at its optimal flow rate and temperature, raising overall system efficiency.

Short History Lesson
|
|
|
Prior to the 1920's, about 80% of the heating systems in homes were hot air and the remainder gravity hot
water or steam systems. Steam gained in favor and there was a corresponding decline in the use of gravity
hot water systems. One reason for this was that only one pipe was needed for steam whereas two were
required for gravity hot water. Of course, there was the slow heat response of hot water gravity systems.
1929: Bell & Gossett became interested in the manufacture of equipment for "Forced Circulation Hot
Water House Heating Systems". This type of system had marked improvements over the old gravity hot
water systems. Through the use of a small electrical pump, circulation of heated water through the system
was greatly accelerated.
1930: B&G begins selling a quiet "booster" pump for use in circulating water. In addition, automatic
controls were added with the addition of the B&G Flo-Control Valve and Electrical Controls. This
improved method of heating tied in perfectly with the use of a B&G Indirect Water Heater. During "off"
periods of the pump, the heat stored in the boiler water was used to heat domestic tap water in the indirect
heater. This combination was widely advertised and sold as the B&G Triple Duty Valve System. It had
the virtues of furnishing controlled and rapid heat for the building during the winter and domestic hot water
all year 'round, from a single boiler.
