| Cleaning the Shaft's Copper
Sleeve It is not unusual for the
copper sleeve to contain deposits of sediment or to show signs of corrosion. Remove the
deposits with emery cloth. If corrosion is present in the sealing area, the shaft must be
replaced. Do not use the same piece of emery cloth on the shaft journals and sleeve.
Once the needed replacements have been made and the surfaces have been sanded and
cleaned, lightly lubricate the shaft and bearing. Slide the shaft back into the front
bearing. If the shaft does not enter the bearing as easily as it was removed, check the
replacement parts for compatibility. |
